GD86/333 Instrument of Sasine (very faint) under the hand of John Masoun, town clerk of Air, notary public, narrating that by inquest of the burgesses of Air, held by the provost and bailies of the burgh in the tolbooth in obedience to a precept from the king's chancery on 14 February 1598-9 it was found that William Riddell, brother of James Riddell, died last vest and seised in (1) a tenement of land lying in the said burgh between the tenement formerly the property of John Patecruif now of Adam Stewart on the south, and the tenement formerly the property of George Blair now of William Rysyd on the north, and (2) the south half of the piece of orchard land or yard formerly the property of the Friars Preachers of the said burgh lying at the back of said tenement between the tenement of John Patecruif and the late Thomas Stenesoun on the south and the lands or yard formerly the property of the said George Blair now of the said William Rysyd on the north, extending in length 66 ells, and in breadth towards the head of the tenement 10 ells with one fourth part of a quarter of an ell, in the middle 9 ells with three quarters and one half of an ell, and at the end towards the east 8½ ells with one-twelfth part of an ell, all as described in Instrument of Sasine under the notary's hand in favour of the said James Riddell, dated 24th March 1581; and that sasine was given by Alexander Lokhert of Boghall, one of the bailies of the burgh of Air, to the said William Riddell of (1) the said tenement of land to be held of the king more burgali for services used and wont, and (2) the said piece of orchard land to be held of the provost, bailies and community of Air in feu farm for payment of [?30] pence annually. Done upon the groundof said tenement and yard on 15th February 1598-9 15 Feb 1598/1599 This record is Open.
