Description
|
1) Calculation book no. 1. 1850-1859. ?For New Work in Progress forming Basis for Estimates?. Includes Calculations for contracts, specifications of machinery, notes and calculations relating to new buildings, alterations, water supply, technical processes with drawings. 2) Calculation book no. 2. 1860-1865. ?For New Work in Progress forming Basis for Estimates?. Includes Calculations for contracts, specifications of machinery, notes and calculations relating to new buildings, alterations, technical processes with drawings. 3) ?General Calculation book?. 1865-1908. Mainly specifications of linen and hessian goods per orders, with costings. 4) ?Proceedings in connection with the Valuation of the Heritable Portion of Dens Works 1866-1867 etc.? Book containing details of valuations of property belonging to Messrs Baxter Brothers & Co. (with index). Includes Records of the company?s appeal against the valuation fixed by the Assessors, Bell and Paterson, in 1866, with their own figures by Mr Blackadder. The progress of the appeal is reported in the Dundee Advertiser, copies of which are contained within the book. Also includes valuations of Dens Works for 1867-1868, and 1868-1869. Contains loose papers (15), mainly relating to later valuations. Includes: (XII) 28 October 1886, lists cost of school from 1858, (building work, rent etc.).

- Personal journal (unidentified): Visit to Lille and Courtrai, 10 May 1886. A detailed description of the flax-spinning and weaving machinery and production in the works at Perinchies, near Lille. In particular, includes a diagram of the arrangement of the cardon flax scutching and hackling machine, observations on its use and estimated production costs.
