Glasgow City Archives was established in the 1960s and originally occupied offices within the City Chambers of Glasgow. Over time the vast amount of material which accrued required more suitable premises and the office was moved into the Mitchell Library in 1984. The office was known as Strathclyde Regional Archives from 1975-1992. It is now a department of the Mitchell and is joined with Special Collections.
