Description
|
These papers are part of the literary archives of the firm from 1805 to 1900. They consist mainly of letters written by authors to Blackwood as their publisher, and by others in search of publication, but they also include some manuscripts and proofs of works considered for publication, together with some papers of William Edmonstoune Aytoun and John Wilson ('Christopher North'). Generally, this is the incoming correspondence of the firm during the 19th century. The outgoing correspondence, so far as is represented by copies in letter books etc, remains with Messrs Blackwood, as does the material relating to commercial and financial matters. The sections are as follows: MS.4001-4734 Correspondence MS.4735-4891 Manuscripts and Proofs MS.4892-4894 Contributors' Lists MS.4895-4934 Aytoun Papers MS.4935-4936 Wilson Financial Papers MS.4937-4940 Additional Papers
