MS.21101-21104 Correspondence MS.21101 i) Correspondence of and concerning the Murrays of Ochtertyre, 1704-1928. Many of the letters are to Sir Patrick Murray, 2nd Bart. of Ochtertyre. Of particualr interest are those relating to the efforts made to secure the release of his son Sir William Murray, 3rd Bart. of Ochtertyre who was imprisoned at Edinburgh and Carlisle following the 1715 Rising, 1716-17 ( ff.47-109 passim). Extracts from this correspondence have been published in ~ by General Sir J. Aylmer Haldane, Edin., 1929. (f.1). Folio and under. MS.21102 Letters to Sir Patrick Murray, 6th Bart. of Ochtertyre, from his brother, General Sir George Murray, 1799-1828. Most of the letters were written while Sir George was serving as Quarter-Master-General during the Peninsular War and discuss largely military matters. There are also letters from Flanders, 1799, Egypt, 1800-1, France, 1816, and Dublin in 1827, where he served as Commander-in-Chief of the forces in Ireland. 302 ff. Folio and under. MS.21105 Journals MS.21105 Journal of a tour in Holland and Switzerland 1789, probably made by Sir Patrick Murray, 6th Bart. of Ochtertyre and his brother, General Sir George Murray. There are detai1~ed descriptions of the architecture, economy, customs, and methods of transport of the countries visited. Enclosed in the volume are journals of two further tours in Switzerland and a few pages of geological notes, n.d., in the same hand. 97 ff. Quarto

With details of agreements entered into while in the West Indies concerning the employment of negro 'pioneers', 1795 (ff.45-52). The volume has blotting paper interleaves. This notebook was probably one of a series, following on from Adv.MS.46.1.3.
