Sir Alexander Hamilton Gordon, son of the 4th Earl of Aberdeen, was born in 1817, and became a career soldier. He rose to the rank of General and was Colonel of the 1st. Battalion, The Prince of Wales' Leinster Regiment. He was awarded the KCB. He sat as MP for Aberdeenshire from 1875 to 1885, and also served as equerry to Queen Victoria. He died in 1890.
