What's not on the National Records of Scotland Online Catalogue?
July 2021

Most of the existing paper catalogues in the National Records of Scotland (NRS) are now on our Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Consequently it is easier for us to say what is not on.
In almost all cases we hold paper catalogues in our Search Rooms for the records listed here. This list does not cover records held by NRS that are still uncatalogued, however.
In many cases there is work underway to complete or convert these catalogues and this is also noted below.

Records
Description and notes
BT5 Board of Trade miscellaneous records
C Records of the Scottish Chancery. The list is in OPAC, but not the indexes. Consult paper copies at NRS.
C20 Patent Specifications. There are manuscript indexes available at NRS (C19).
CS Records of the Court of Session. OPAC contains the basic lists of court registers which have to be ordered out and searched to identify the individual processes associated with them. We are transferring the content in the registers into OPAC so that they can be used as an index to surviving processes and to identify actions which took place but for which no processes survive. Index information for the following series will appear gradually in OPAC as work progresses:
  • CS46 (Acts & Decreets, 5th series, 1830-1998). Years 1830-40, 1850-1851, 1878, and 1880-1994 are now on OPAC;
  • CS248-CS249 (Unextracted processes, 2nd Arrangement 1822-1911);
  • CS281 (Bill Chamber Petitions in Sequestrations 1856-1955);
  • CS315 (Curatories and Factories, 1850-1948).
