Jacktoun is first mentioned in a feu charter dated 1562 which grants the property to William Craig, his wife, Janet Mwre and their son Andrew Craig. By 1616, William Craig has died and the property has passed to his son, John Craig. In 1641 it then passes to Robert Craig, John's son, who then sells the property to John Myllare in 1649. In 1662, John Millar then passes the property to a John Hamiltowne, Robert Cwninghame, Robert Millar and Robert Spens. By 1704, the property was in the hands of the Reid family, and in 1716 David Reid passed the property to his son John Reid, which fell in turn to his son David in 1718. A John Reid is mentioned in connection with the property by 1728, and then in 1744 to his son, David and his wife Margaret Colquhoun who were still there in 1752, but the property passed into the hands of Robert Strang, 1757. It was then passed to his son Arthur Strang (died between 1761 and 1763) and his wife Helen Hart and when he died, to his son William, older brother of Robert. Their mother Helen Hart married, on their father's death, John Jackson of Little Uddingstoun, with whom she had a son, William Jackson. William Strang married, in 1784, a Helen Hepburn. The property may still have been in the hands of the Strang family in 1838 and then may have passed to the Hamilton family. |
