By Robert Bruce Bsc, MICE, M Inst M & Cy E, Master of Works and City Engineer. W & A K Johnston Ltd, lithographers, Edinburgh and London (no 1). Gilmour & Dean Ltd, Glasgow (no 2). Glasgow Corporation Printing Department. Various scales. 390 x 260 x 4 mm. Sheets 380 x 500 mm unfolded. Coloured. Printed. Boards covered in blue bookcloth. Black titling on front board. Alexander Baillie's engraving of James Barry's 'Plan of the City of Glasgow', 1782, reproduced on back board. Front and back fly sheets 'Inner core of the City. Guide to street names.' The plans comprise: (1) proposed arterial and sub-arterial roads in Glasgow; (2) proposed integrated transport system there; (3-5) specimen roundabouts combined with road and rail stations; (6-8) inner core of the city; (9) existing city centre; (10) net densities of population; (11) land not built on within the city; and (12) the Glasgow conurbation; and acknowledgments. Note: 'Maps based on the 5 inch andd 2 1/2 inch maps issued by Messrs. John Batholomew & Son Ltd...Th one inch Ordnance Survey map is reproduced with the sanction of the Controller of His Majesty's Stationery Office.' |
