Description |
'Rough plan of roads survey'd in the county of Dumfries for the saving about 8 miles of distance from Glasgow to Dumfries'. By John Ainslie, land surveyor. [1:63,360] 1 inch = 1 mile. 533 x 377 on sheet 619 x 460 mm. Ink and colour wash. Linen backing. Plan of parts of the roads between Glasgow and Dumfries in the county of Dumfries. Coloured to show the road recommended by the surveyor and the line which was adopted to cut the distance. Distances between points given in table. Waterways, hills and buildings named. Note 1: 'The red arrows points out the lenghts of the pulls the figures the steepness'. Note 2: 'The road coloured yellow is a part of the road recommended by the surveys as the best. the road from B.A.C is the alteration made which is so steep that it never can be travelled but with a cart half loaded having upon it long and severe pulls. |
