Description |
'A plan of the estate of Castlecary, belonging to Lawrence Dundas lyeing in the parish of Cumbernauld and shire of Stirling as surveyed and planned in the moneth of Octbr 1758 containing 1018+ Scots acres or 294+ English.' By Lewis Gordon, surveyor. [1: 2400] 1 inch = 200 feet. 1055 x 1600 mm. Ink and colour wash. Annotations in ink and graphite. Compass rose. Title and scale in decorative scrollwork. Linen backing. Estate plan showing names, land use and acreage of fields; roads, woodland, Water of Bonny and its direction of flow, coal vein, Roman camp 'Castrus Carri', bridges and boundaries with other proprietors. Lands noted in the table of contents are 'Below Graham's Dyke': Wood Neuk, Pig -holes, Mill-Lands, Smiths, Houghs, Yard etc., and lands held by John Walker junior, John Stirling, Margaret Forsyth; 'Above Graham's Dyke': lands held by James Stirling, John Walker Senior, John Chambers, Henry Marischal and common muir; 'Castle-Cary Parks': parks, woods, etc., Had-hill, Smith's and Hamilton's Parks, Whin, Litle (sic) and Sheil Parks, Thorn Park, Moss Parks and Tenant's Moss; 'South the Parks': Drum Head, Habbie's Wells, Walton's Easter and Wester and, Ward's; 'Farms South and East': Kilts, Bent-Yate, Hewn-Stane, Rash-Bush and Pate's-Lodge; 'South East Farms': Bandominie, Scar-Muir, Archie Dabby's Park, Mid Fauchinshiel-rig and Mid Fauchinshiel South Moss. Annotated with proposed line of railway. Note reads, 'The squares drawn through the plan the contents of each is ten Scots acres and their sides lying true south and north east and west are in length 10 Scots chains being 1 furlong or 1/8 of Scots mile.' |
