Description |
'The estate of Ballantrae, the property of the Right Honourable the Earl of Stair'. By P Sturrock [1:2400] 1 in = 3 imperial chains 201 x 93 cm Plan of the estate of Ballantrae coloured to show the farms of Balnowlart, Balig, High and Laigh Mains and the Sands. Fields numbered to correspond with a table of contents which gives land use under headings arable including meadow; pasture, burns, quarries, waste etc; planting and houses, yards, private roads etc. Steadings, cottages, sites of ruined steadings, Carsgowrie Mill, Ardstinchar Castle ruins, Parkend cottages, River Stinchar with old dam dyke, River Tig, streams, Drainage ditches, comments on rough pasture, marsh, old turf dyke, roads including turnpike roads from Colmonell and from Ayr and Girvan to Portpatrick, Ballantrae Bridge, coastline and mouth of Stinchar River with gravel banks and sea beach noted. Houses and gardens in Ballantrae village noted along with tenants' or feuars' names. Kirk yard, manse, glebe, Free Church ground, schoolhouse and small plots of land adjacent to village with tenants' names with special regard to the Sands noted. Adjacent lands and proprietors named including Alexander Cathcart, Mr Hamilton, Mr McNeil-Caird and J C Moore. Multiple scale. |
