Description |
'A plan of the Earl of Stairs estate lying in the parish of Glenluce'. By John Gillone [1:10,700] 1 in = 12 Scottish chains 97 x 128 cm Plan RHP4602/1, coloured to show boundaries of farms of Annabaglish, Meikle Barlockhart, Barnsallie, Blackhill, Campbell's Croft, Carscreugh, Challochmun, Culroy, Culquhassen, High and Laigh Dergoals, Dirnear, Dirskilphine, Dervaird, Glenhowl, Glenjorrie, Grayshill Mark, North and South Milton, Officer's Croft, Sinniness Castle, Laigh Sinniness, Ward or Balcaill feu, Whitecairn and Viccarhill, and the village of Glenluce. Runrig lands of each farm numbered to correspnnd with detailed table of contents on RHP4602/2 giving 'Description of Soil', land use under headings arable, meadow, planting, moor, moss, green pasture and pleasure ground, and some tenants' names. Steadings, cottages, herd's house, arable, moss/moorland, plantations, trees, lochs, mill dam and race, streams, coastline, Port of Milton and roads including the military road from Glenluce to Newton Stewart noted. Relief by brush strokes. Vignettes of Carscreugh House and the Castle of Sinniness. Multiple scale. Adjacent lands and proprietors named including Earls of Dumfries, Galloway and Stair, Rev Andrew Adair, Captain Dalrymple of Dunragget, Dr Hamilton of Craichlaw, Alex Hannah, Sir Thomas Hay, Mr Johnstone, William Leggat and Major Ross.
