Description |
Composite town plan, plan of properties and section of walls. By William Mathison, surveyor. No lithographer. Multiple scales. 568 x 440 mm. Lithograph. Hand coloured. Compass rose. Plans and section produced in causa Stewart or Spence against Cromarty or Loutit.
1. 'No. 1 A plan of that part of the Borough of Kirkwall lying between the head of the Broad Street and Mr Robert Nicolson's property at the heart of the town, with the roads of approach on the south, west and northwest.' [1:1580] 1 inch = 1.78 Scots chains. Town plan showing properties and their owners, toads, the Oyse or Little Sea, Little Crofty, slaughterhouse and quarry. The properties of John Cromarty and Mr D Spence are highlighted in colour.
2. 'No.2 Plan of the properties of Mr David Spence & of Mr John Cromarty, & his sister's with the lane or footpath between them.' [1:320] 1 inch = 27 feet. Plan showing the lane or footpath in dispute lying between the properties of John Cromarty and his sister, and David Spence. Walls represented in section at 3. below are numbered and some measurements in feet and inhces are given. Noted are neighbouring proprietors, stile, foundation of old dyke, closes, stable, byre and toofall.
3. 'Transverse section of the walls on each side of the lane or footpath, shewing the exact widths at the different points, represented on th ePlan No.2 by the numbers 5 to 17 inclusive.' [1:64] 1 inch = 5.3 feet. Sections show surface levels, wall heights and scarcements. |
