Description |
'Plan of the whole moors, mosses and pastures lying in the parish of Stenness, hitherto occupied by the different heritors of said parish as a common but now proportionally divides'. By James Chapman & Alexander Gibbs, surveyors of land, Inverness. [1:14,300] 1 inch = 16 Scottish chains 960 x 611 mm. Ink and colour wash. Compass rose. Relief by brush wash. Linen backing. Plan of the parish coloured to show the privately-owned land and the common divided into sections and numbered to correspond with a table of contents which names the proprietors including Lord Armadale, Lord Dundas, William Leith, Andrew Davies, John Smith, James Omans, George Geddes, William Miller and eighteen others. Acreages given. Every farm in the parish named. Lime kiln, schoolhouse, two mills, church, glebe. Bridge of Waith, Bridge of Brodgar, roads and streams noted. Informative note referring to the division of the commonty. Endorsed 9 November 1812 by James Chapman, a Gibbs, Robert Baikie, Commissioner, and Wm Bain, Clerk, referring to a disposition, and again on 7 March 1815 by D Monypenny in reference to the use of the plan in the Court of Session. |
