'Plan of the Eatate of Dalkeith and the Baronys of East Park and Sheriffhall lying in the Parishes of Dalkeith, Inveresk & Newton And county of Edinburgh Belonging to His Grace Henry, Duke of Buccleugh'. By [John Leslie]. [1:3600] 1 in = 4 Scottish chains. 1772 x 1105 mm. Ink and colour wash. Linen backing. Estate plan showing Dalkeith House, policies, town and farms including Whitehill, Easter and Wester Cowden, Langside and Newfarm in Dalkeith parish; Smeaton and Smeaton Shaw in Inveresk parish; and Sheriffhall Mains and Kame End in Newton parish. Land use indicated - arable, pasture and plantation. Barley, flour, oat and waulk mills, poorhouse, glebe, toll bar, Bridgend and Lugton villages, limekilns and coal pits noted. Names of adjacent proprietors including Marquis of Lothian, Capt Hugh Dalrymple of Fordel and Sir William Dalrymple of Cousland. Triple scale. Table of contents. Endorsed 'Edinr. 10 Nov. 1846. Referred to in the deposition of John Gibson & Co. W.S., as relative in causa Mushett agt. His Grace of Buccleuch and others of this date.' (This plan is unsigned and not dated, but it is in the hand of John lesslie, land surveyor, Liberton, Liberton (fl 1749-1780) and dedicated to Henry, 3rd Duke of Buccleuch (s. 1751; d. 1812) |
