Description |
'A plan of the lands & barony of Whitton consisting of several farms lying in the parishes of Hounam & Morebattle & shire of Roxburgh, the property of John Riddel of Riddel Esqr.' By Thomas Wilson, surveyor.
[1:3200] 1 inch = 4 Scots chains. 1266 x 1490 mm. Ink and colourwash. Backed in fabric with ribbon edging. Elaborate compass rose.
Estate plan showing the extent and situation of the farms to each other and to the lands surrounding them. Houses, roads, dykes, burns, and landscape features shown. Road destinations given. Individual buildings shown on the various farms. Names of neighbouring proprietors noted. Farms of East and West side of Nether Whitton, Phalaws, Hetherlands, Heavyside, Chesterhouse, and Over Whitton shown. Farm and field boundaries marked in colour. Extensive description of each plot of land giving type, condition and usage as well as individual plot names where applicable. Plots are numbered to correspond with an account book (not extant). Table of explanation with details of surveyor's markings. Title in decorative cartouche flanked by two parakeets and surrounded by leaf, vine, and floral border. |
