'Plan of the town of Arbroath from survey by John Wood, Edinburgh, corrected by John Jarron, 7th Feby 1842, and republished by Patrick Wilson, bookseller, Arbroath'. Engraved by Thomas McLeod, Edinburgh. [1:3400] 1 in = 4.25 Imperial chains. 672 x 1011 mm. Engraving, handcoloured. Published town plan coloured to show ancient royalty, precincts of abbey and adjacent parishes. Street-names given. Functions of many buildings given including mills, tanneries, saltworks, toll houses, some with proprietors' names. Lines of Dundee and Arbroath Railway and Arbroath and Forfar Railway included. Inset view of Arbroath Abbey as it stood in 1780. |
