Description |
'Plan of the barony of Loanhead in the shire of Edinburgh belonging to Sir John Clerk Bar[one]t of Penicuik'. By James Stevenson, surveyor. [1:1800] 1 inch = 2 Scots chains 1350 x 1043 mm on sheet 1381 x 1070 mm Ink and colour wash. Relief in grey wash. Cartouche with vignette of dairymaid and two cows, two courting couples and labourers or miners having a rest and a smoke. Estate plan of the barony of Loanhead, showing fields and their use, trees, roads, acreage, lands feued, North Esk River, limestone quarries, buildings, dovecot and bleachfield. Places noted are Brughlee, Paraydykes, Fountainhead, Mayshade, Edgefield, Loanhead, Bilstone Burn, Robins Know, Upper Lasswade, Netherhouses, Kirkhill, Lasswade and Kevock Mill. Boundaries are noted with Colonel William Calderwood, Polton, Robert Clerk, esquire, Mavisbank, General James Lockhart of Lee, Dryden, Lady Gibson, Pentland, Alexander Johns[on], esquire, Straton, and Henry Dundas, esquire, Melville. |
