330 x 195mm. Ink and colour wash. 24 pages, numbered 1-21. Watermarks; IV and sheild. Original limp sugar paper cover.
Plans of layout of garden and plantings and of acreages of adjacent parks or fields on property of Sir John Rutherfurd of that ilk. Notes: (p19) ' it is a Scale by which all the fields in this book are laid down being a scale of two Chains in an Inch, the House & Court, & west planting, East and South Garden, are laid down by a farre larger Scale.'; and (p 21): plans are 'in our own Statute Measure 18 1/2 feet to the pole, & in the Statute measure of England att 16 1/2 feet to the pole.' |
