'Scotland drawn and engraved from a series of Angles and Astronomical Observations'. By John Ainslie, land curveyor. Lithographed by John and James Ainslie. Published according to Act of Parliament. 1 inch = 4 miles. 1780 x 1661 mm. Hand coloured. Lithograph. Linen backing. Map of Scotland coloured to show county boundaries. Cities, towns and villages named. Major roads marked. Explanations. Note giving details of roads from Edinburgh to London. Table of diatances with explanation. Heights of the most remarkabe hills. Inset maps of the Orkney and Shetland Islands. Pictorial elevations of ships in surrounding seas. Title is in a pictorial scene showing fisherman, a man hearding cattle, sheet and a goat. Compass roses. Very North Easterly point of Ireland shown. Inscription: 'To the right Hono[oura]ble Henry Dundass Treasurer of the Navy &c &c. This map is most humbly inscribed by his most obedient servant John Ainslie'. |
