Description |
'A plan of the Lordship of Achindown lying in the Parish of Mortlich and County of Banff the property of His Grace the Duke of Gordon'. By Thomas Milne.
[1:2925] 1 inch = 3.25 Scottish chains. Total size 3594 x 2840 mm. Ink and colour wash on linen. The whole is dissected into four sheets which are each further dissected into 4 parts each. Linen backing. Compass rose.
Estate plan coloured to show boundaries of farms and townships including Corsemaul, Rebreck, Raehutcheon, New Tack, Newley, Chow Green, Alnaboyle, Bakebare, Crofts of Clunybeg, Mireside, Boghead, Tenriach, mains of Keithmore, Milntown of Achindown, Mains of Clunymore, Meulach, Clasdow, Tullochallum, Upper Keithack, Upper and nether Tomnon, Auchanhandock, Upper and Little Pitglassie, Hard Haugh, Upper, nether and little Enoch and Glencorrie. Infield-outfields with field-names, acreages and quality given. Steadings with occupants' names. Many annotations giving quality of ground, eg 'A face of dry moor ground of a good soil, and might be improved'. Water mill, limekilns, limestone and slate quarries and many cairns supposed to have been a burial place noted. Names of adjacent lands and proprietors including Earl of Fife and Mr Duff. Table of contents giving acreages by farms of arable pasture, wood, moss and moor. Detailed remarks including recommendations for improvement. Illustrated key. Large vignette showing hunting scene with stag at bay, deerhounds or greyhounds, shepherd and flock, runrigs with plough and team, cottages and ruined castle.
