'A plan of the Great Canal from Forth to Clyde as finished by Robert Whitworth engin[ee]r'. Robert Whitworth, engineer. Engraver unknown. 1/2 in = 1 mile, 1 in = 60 ft, 1 in = 1 mile (inset). 670 x 1920mm. Engraving. Hand coloured (canal and reservoirs only). Compass rose. Plan of the Forth and Clyde canal as finished by Robert Whitworth, Engineer, in 1790 from Bowling Bay to Grangemouth with branch to Port Dundas. Longitudinal section of the Forth & Clyde Canal (Great Canal) showing locks, tunnels, bridges, aqueducts etc. Inset plan of the Monkland Canal, with reservoirs, lochs and feeders. Tables of: dimensions of canal and locks; distances; recapitulation; chronology from first operations in 1768 to completion in 1790. Larger settlements in block plan.
