No title By [James Smith]. Scale 1/8 inch =- 1 foot. 400 x 130 mm. Ink and colour wash. Elevation of wreathed column with Corinthian capital. Possibly a design for a column for the Monument to William Douglas, 3rd Duke of Hamilton now in St Brides' Collegiate Church, Bothwell. (See Hamilton MSS [Lennoxlove]. Box 463/10/2 for contract and elevation of monument sgd by Hamilton, Mr J Smith, J Smith 1696). [Or more likely for a wreathed column for the frontis piece of N quarter of Hamilton Palace to accompany Smith's letter of 15 May 1696. HA 226/21/1] |
