Description |
'A general plan of the lands of Speyside, viz Dipple, Essle and Garmouth ... heritably belonging to the Right Honourable James, Earl of Fife'. By George Taylor. Scale [1:3600] 1 inch = 4 Scottish chains. 342 x 141 cm. Ink and colour wash. A very fine and detailed plan of the town of Garmouth and adjacent runrig lands. Town shown in perspective with single and double storied buildings including one marked as saw mill. Boundaries of rigs coloured with tenants' names and acreages given. Field-names, commonty, harbour, march stones and plantations noted. Part of Speymouth parish included - townships of Essle, Nether and Upper newton, Back, Nether and upper Stynie, Redhall, Cowfords, Crofts of Dipple, Doulsburn, Trochelhill, orbliston, Westerton and Deans Hillock. Note by surveyor giving recommendations for improvements. Colourful border to title with fruits, flowers and bird and a rural scene showing herd, windmill, bridge, man fishing and man arrying gun. Scale surmounted by scene showing surveyor and assistants chaining between two buildings and a large female figure. Illustrated key flanked by male and female figures. Tables of contents giving acreages of the townships of Speyside, the feus of Garmouth and the mosses and plantations on the moorland. |
