Description |
'Plan of part of the estate of Closeburn, the property of Sir Stuart Monteath, Bart'. Unattributed. Lithographed by Maclure and Macdonald, Glasgow. [1:16,100] 1 in = 18 Scottish chains. 964 x 688 mm. Hand coloued. Lithograph. Estate plan coloured to show boundaries of farms - Clauchrie, Whitespots, Auchenrennie, Shieldhill, Birswick (Birsack), Kirkpatrick, Nether and Upper Rig, Park, Barnmuir, Closeburn mains, Cample, Brattles, Dollard, Newton, Highland, Sandrum, Townfoot and Townhead. Closeburn castle, parks, gardens, church, manse, academy, Closeburn mill, Cample factory, saw mill, limeworks, Covenanter's cave, Souters Seat and plantations noted. Table of contents (damaged) giving tenants' names and acreages of arable, pasture and wood. Names of adjacent lands. Two pictorial scenes - 'A view of Closeburn Castle' with figures and 'Crichope Linn celebrated by Sir Walter Scott as a retreat of Balfour of Burley'. |
