Description |
'Plan No.[-] [of the intended] line of road Kyle Rhea through the Isle of Sky (sic), the new fishing village of Stein at the north west end thereof from an accurate survey taken Summer 1799.' By George Brown, surveyor. [1:25370] 1 inch = 28.5 Scots chains or 2.5 inches = 1 mile. 767 x 2838 mm (in three pieces 939, 943 and 956 mm length). Ink and colour wash. Relief in grey wash. Vignette of coast and ship (damaged). Linen backing. Plan of the Isle of Skye from Isay Island, Loch Bay and Stein to Inner Kyle, Kyle Rhea and the Bay of Glenelg showing the intended road joining Stein and Kyle Rhea passing through Strath Hornavall (Horneval), Glen Tesdale (Heysdal), past the Bay of Oyse (Ose) and Ault de Uiel (Allt Dhughaill) to Struan (Struanmore) and Loch Brackadale (Bracadale), on to Gesto, over Glen Somerdale (Sumerdale) and Glen Miadale, past Drynach (Drynoch) through Auchagahan and Glen Herport to Sligachan. The road then passes along the side of Loch Sligachan to Kyle More and into Glen Tateran to Kaun Loch Inord (Ceann Loch Eynort) past Loup Reinakak (Luib) to Strolomiss (Strolamus) and Knock na Kyle, Dreinnin Uil and Broadfoord (Broadford) along the edge of Loch Luras to Ashik over the Water of Lusta and through Glen Arrahk (Arroch) to Balloch Hudell (Bealach Udal) to Inner Kyle at Kyle Rhea. Another route throughout Strath More along Loch Slappan through Kill Bhride (Kilbride) past Loch Christ, through Kirk o' Gilichrist (Cille Chriosd) to Broadford is also marked. Settlements, rivers, burns, hills, mountains, pasture, corn land, arable land, islands and significant ancient sites are marked. A table of explanation and references is given detailing each section of road; distance; estimate for forming and making the road; estimate for the necessary bridges and total estimate. An abstract showing the total distance and estimated cost is also given. |
