Description |
Correspondence, notes, memoranda, plans and other papers relating to the arming of lighthouses and training of lightkeepers in response to enemy air attacks, in particular attacks on the Bell Rock Lighthouse.
Contents include: papers relating to the formulation of policy on arming lighthouses; lists of armed lighthouses and lightkeepers trained in gunnery and aircraft recognition; supply vouchers for Hotchkiss machine guns, spares and ammunition issued to lighthouses; letters from lightkeepers expressing willingness to operate weapons against enemy attacks, and providing updates on supply and installation of guns, and training; papers relating to the installation of anti-aircraft Lewis guns at Kinnaird Head Lighthouse; and papers relating to the removal of guns in peacetime. Includes technical drawing (plans, section and details) of machine gun platforms at the Bell Rock Lighthouse. |
