Archival history |
A note on folio 1v indicates that this volume was in official custody in the late 16th or early 17th century. Along with JC1/1, it was later in the private library of Sir Robert Sibbald (1614-1722). When this was sold in 1723, the volumes were purchased by the Faculty of Advocates. They remained in the Advocates Library (referenced Adv MSS 25.1.1-2) until 1880 when they were returned to the Justiciary Office. In 1934, they were transmitted to the Register House along with other pre-1800 records.
JC1/2 appears to have been rebound while in the Advocates' Library. A transcript made in 1807-8 (RH2/1/6-7) shows that its contents were then badly out of order, particularly at each end of the volume. It was conserved and rebound in 1934, when H M Paton attempted to restore the original order, renumbering the folios (ringed numbers) and inserting notes where he was uncertain. |
