There were several reorganisations of the Scottish gas industry following nationalisation in 1949. The Edinburgh and South East Group was one of six created following a reorganisation on 1 October 1964. From that date it included the City of Edinburgh, the counties of East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian, the Borders and Dumfriesshire.
