Greenock West Free Church was formed at the Disruption, when the minister of the existing Greenock West church and most of his congregation adhered to the Free Church. A new church was built in Ardgowan Street in 1844 and replaced, in the same street, in 1862. A mission carried out by this congregation later became Greenock North Free Church. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, and united in 1966 with Greenock Gaelic as Greenock The Old Kirk. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Greenock and synod of Clydesdale. |
