Pulteneytown Free Church originated at the Disruption, when the congregation of the existing quoad sacra parish adhered to the Free Church. It passed to the United Free Church as Pulteneytown Central, which united with Wick Martyrs in 1911. The Church of Scotland charge, Wick Central, united with Wick West in 1950. Wick Pulteneytown and Thrumster was formed in 1990 by the union of Wick Central and Wick St Andrew's and Thrumster. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Caithness and the synod of Ross, Sutherland and Caithness.
