Admin history Following the Disruption in 1843, the Free Church adherents of Slains were placed under the charge of the minister at Cruden, and as a consequence it was proposed that a preaching station be erected in Slains, with a probationer in charge. In 1857 the Free Church congregation had to give up their place of worship and was forced for a time to worship in the open air. A new church however was opened in 1862 and a number of years thereafter in 1874 the charge was sanctioned. When the minister of Slains Free Church retired in 1892 the charge was reduced to a mission station and in 1919, following the union between the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, when Slains Free Church became Slains United Free Church, the Presbytery resolved to discontinue service here. In 1920 Slains United Free Church was sold. The congregation sat within the Free Presbytery of Ellon and later the United Free Presbytery of Deer.
