Admin history Alves Free Church was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when the minister and a number of the congregation of Alves established church adhered to the Free Church. There existed strong hostility to the Free Church amongst many of the landed proprietors of Alves and consequently it took some time to secure a site upon which a church and manse could be erected. At the time of the 1900 union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Alves Free Church became Alves United Free and following the 1929 union with the Church of Scotland, Alves United Free was renamed Alves South. In 1931 Alves South and the congregation of Alves North were united together under the name of Alves. A link later followed in 1963 with the charge of Burghead, and a number of years thereafter in 1982 the congregations united to form Alves and Burghead. The united session was further linked in 1995 with Kinloss and Findhorn. The Kirk Session of Alves sat within the Presbytery of Elgin and Alves and Burghead falls under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Moray.
