Kilmarnock (Crookedholm) Reformed Presbyterian Church originated with a petition to the Reformed Presbytery in 1775 for the shires of Renfrew and Ayr to be disjoined. A minister was appointed in 1777, who officiated in turn at Darvel, Crookedholm, near Kilmarnock, and Fenwick. In 1785 a church was built at Crookedholm. In 1825 the congregation moved to Kilmarnock and in 1876 it joined the Free Church (as Kilmarnock Martyrs'). It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland and dissolved in 1958. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Irvine and Kilmarnock and the synod of Ayr. |
