Title |
Instrument of Sasine under the hand of David Ross, clerk, of the diocese of Ross, notary public, following upon and narrating the precept of sasine in a disposition of locality (dated at Ross-house near Edinburgh 23 January 1753 and registered in the Register of Deeds (Dal.) 21 February 1755) by the deceased George, Lord Ross, granting to Lady Betty Kerr, his wife, a liferent locality of 4000 merks (restricted to 2000 merks until the debts and legacies affecting the estate of Balnagowan are extinguished by a yearly payment of £600 sterling) furth of (1) the lands and barony of Balnagown which were erected into a free barony by a charter under the great seal in favour of General Charles Ross dated 23 December 1713, viz:- the old barony of Balnagown, the lands of Strathoikle with the tower and fishings, the lands of Strathcharron with the salmon fishings of all the Water of Charron, the lands of Balnagown and the Miln of Balnagown, lying in the sheriffdoms of Ross and Sutherland, the lands and tenandry of Kincardine in the sheriffdom of Ross and the lands which formerly pertained to the Abbey of Fearn lying within the said sheriffdom; (2) the lands purchased by said General Charles Ross from John Ross of Logie, writer in Edinburgh, and lying within said sheriffdom and the teinds of the same, and (3) the several crofts and pieces of ground purchased by him from William Ross of Aldie, held burgage of the burgh of Tain: which locality is provided in terms of deed of entail (dated 5 August 1727) by Charles Ross of Balnagown, colonel general of the Dragoons, in favour of Charles Ross, second son of the said George, Lord Ross, whom failing, George Ross, his third son, etc. Sasine given at the manor of Balnagown by Kenneth Sutherland in Balnagown, bailie of the granter, on 29 March 1755, to Andrew Ross in Balnagown, attorney for Lady Betty Kerr, of said locality furth of the following parts of the barony of Westray in the parish of Eddertoun, possessed by William Baillie of Rosehall as tenant viz: the lands of Ardmore, Loan Dallass, Craigroy, Auchinlellans, Gartomy, Torroy, Carriblair, Little Dallas and Miln and Milnlands of Edertown and also furth of the following parts of the lands of Strathcarron possessed by the said William Baillie viz: the lands of Glenmore, Glenbeg, Alladales, Meulichs, Glasschyle and Braelangwell all lying in the sheriffdom of Ross |

Witnesses to the disposition of locality, Alexander Cunnynghame, Clerk to the Signet, and John Irvine, servant to the granter. Witnesses to the sasine, Alexander Sangster, gardener at Balnagown, and Mr. Hugh Ross, preacher of the gospel and schoolmaster at the New Bridge of Balnagown.
