Petition by Jean Maxwell and Mary Maxwell, daughters and heirs portioners of the deceased Eduard Maxwell of Nether Rerick, eldest lawful son of the second marriage of the late Samuel Maxwell of Newlaw, John Maxwell, writer in Dumfries, husband of the said Jean, and James Kennan in Nether Rerick, husband of the said Mary, addressed to William Gordoun of Campbelltoun, commissary depute of Kirkcudbright, craving that warrant be granted to William Maxwell, younger of Carswadda, to open and inspect the charter chests of the said Samuell Maxwell at the Airds, Nether Rerick and Mollance, to transmit the writings at Airds, which are above a smoky kitchen, and almost spoilt, to Nether Rerick, and to deliver to them any writs and securities in favour of their grandfather, father and themselves relative to the lands of Airds and Nether Rerick upon inventory and receipt which is to remain in the said charter chests |

[In dorso] Kirkcudbright 16 September 1732. The Commissary depute grants warrant to the said William Maxwell yr. and to the Commissary Clerk or his depute to inspect and inventory the said charter chests. (Signed) Will Gordoune. Kirkcudbright 18 September 1632. The Commissary Clerk, who cannot attend personally, appoints Anthony Donaldson, writer in Kirkcudbright, his depute for the purpose above mentioned (Signed) Jo. Maxuell. |
