Charter of Adjudication under the great seal of George I, with consent of the Barons of Exchequer, granting to William Miller, W.S., trustee for Mr. Mathew Crawfurd, professor of Ecclesiastical History in the University of Edinburgh, John Cathcart, lawful eldest son of the late Andrew Cathcart, merchant in Glasgow, Mrs. Janet Robertson, only lawful daughter of the deceased Mr. James Robertson, one of the principal clerks of Session, with consent of Mr. Ralph Dundas of Mainor and Mr. William Robertson, W.S., her tutors and curators, John, Mary and Jean, children of the late Mathew Campbell, merchant in Edinburgh, Magdalen Kinloch, his relict, their mother, and Sir Francis Kinloch of Gilmertoun Baronet and Mr. James Hume of Eccles, advocate, their tutors and curators, Thomas Baillie of Polkemmet, John Blair, merchant in Edinburgh, Archibald Blair, son of the late Mr. David Blair, minister in Edinburgh, with consent of his mother and curator, Euphan Nisbet, relict of the said Mr. David, John Hairdin, writer in Edinburgh, George Broun, merchant there, Nichol Spence, writer there, the Incorporation of St. Mary's Hospital in Edinburgh, James Gordon of Ellon, merchant in Edinburgh, Janet Broun, relict of Robert Key, mariner in Leith, and Barbara Key, lawful daughter of the deceased Charles Key, late minister in South Leith, and wife of Alexander Laing of Yeardheads of Leith, with consent of her husband, all creditors of Sir John Houston of that Ilk or Sir John Houston of that Ilk, his father, both deceased, one-half of the town and lands of Wester Whitburn, with mill, mill-lands etc., extending to a 50 shilling land, one-half of the lands and barony of Easter Whiteburne and one-half of the lands of Litle Blackburn, lying within the parish of Livingstoun and sheriffdom of Linlithgow, the advocation and right of patronage of the parish church and parish of Houstoun in the sheriffdom of Renfrew with teinds etc., and the lands of Hairscraigs and Foadstoune, otherwise called Grieffcastle and Montfode, lying in the parishes of Killelland and Innerkip and sheriffdom foresaid: which lands and others pertained heritably to the said deceased Sir John Houstoun, elder and younger, and were adjudged from Sir John Houstoun of that Ilk, lawful eldest son of the said deceased Sir John Houstoun yr. (who on being lawfully charged to enter heir to them renounced his right) at the instance of the said William Miller as trustee foresaid in payment and satisfaction of the debts, amounting to £24492 Scots at the date of the decree, specified in a decreet of adjudication (dated 17 June 1724) pronounced by the Lords of Council and Session; redeemable in terms of act of Parliament anent adjudications: To be held de nobis for payment of the customary duties: with precept of sasine |
