Title |
Articles of Marriage between Patrick Haldane, advocate, on the one part, and Mrs. Margaret Forrester, with consent of George, Lord Forrester, her brother german, on the other part, whereby the said Patrick Haldane binds and obliges himself (1) to provide the sum of £20,000 sterling which is to be expended in the purchase of lands, the title of which is to be taken to himself and the heirs male to be procreated of the marriage, (2) to provide his wife in case she survives him in a liferent annuity of £200 sterling secured over said lands and (3) to secure her in the liferent of a sufficient house and yards or to pay £30 Sterling yearly in lieu thereof. He dispones to her one-half of his insight, plenishing and household furniture in his possession at his decease, which may be redeemed by the heir on payment of £200 Sterling, and in the event of there only being daughters born of the marriage to pay to them the sums therein mentioned. The tocher is 10,000 merks Scots which the spouses accept in full satisfaction of all former bonds of provision granted by her father or due to her through the decease of James Forrester, her brother. Execution may pass against the said Patrick Haldane at the instance of the said George, Lord Forrester, Captain Andrew Forrester, his brother german, and William Stirling of Herbertshyre. Witnesses, John Haldan of Glenaglis, John Haldane, his son, Mungo Graham of Gorthie, William Kennedy, William Stirling of Herbertshyre, Mr. Charles Campbell, son of the deceased Colonel James Campbell, John Stirling, brother german of William Stirling of Herbertshyre, and Robert Boyd, writer in Edinburgh. The deed is written by Walter Simson, servitor of the said Robert Boyd.
Signed by Patrick Haldane and Margaret Forrester but not by Lord Forrester, who apparently was to subscribe in London. |
