Title |
Memorandum for the Laird of Corehouse to be given in to the arbiter between him and the Laird of Cleghorn. It narrates that in February 1669 Thomas Baillie, brother of John Baillie, elder of St. John's Kirk, obtained from William, Earl of Roxburgh, a feu right of the kirklands of the kirk of Woolstown, under reservation to the ministers of Woolstown of the manse, glebe and yards designed to them and that he and his heirs continued in possession thereof till April 1698 when the Laird of Cleghorn "came in a violent manner beat the tennant, cutted the plough grath and seized upon the possession quhich he has continued in ever since". An action was thereupon raised before Lord Tullicutrie to which Corehouse acquired right from Violet Baillie and Martha Baillie, apparent heirs of the said Thomas Baillie, their granduncle, and he therefore claims the violent profits of the lands from the year 1698 and the possession thereof in time coming.
