Title |
Instrument of Sasine under the hand of John Grierson, clerk, of the diocese of Edinburgh, notary public, following upon and narrating the precept of sasine in a heritable bond (dated at Edinburgh 16 March, 1699) by Patrick Murray of Livingston, whereby he bound and obliged himself, in consideration of the sum of 9000 merks Scots received from Mr. James Louis of Merchistoun, to infeft him in an annualrent of £360 Scots furth of (1) the lands and barony of Livingston comprehending the burgh of barony of Livingston, with the mains thereof, the tower and fortalice called the Peill of Livingston, the lands of Breich, Staneburn, Carmonden, Easter and Wester Cousland, Newark and Parks lying in the parish of Livingston and sheriffdom of Linlithgow, all as described in charter under the great seal in favour of Walter Murray of Livingston, and (2) the templelands of Newyeardfield, with the commonty and common pasturage in and upon the muirs and marshes of Drumchorline lying in said sheriffdom, with the advocation, donation and right of patronage of the church of Livingston and parsonage thereof which is annexed and incorporated with said lands of Newyeardfield. Sasine given on 3 April 1703 by Duncan McFarlane, saddler, Bathgate, bailie of the granter, to John Whyt, indweller in Bathgate, attorney for the said James Louis, at the manor-place of Livingston and upon the ground of the templelands of Newyeardfield |

Witnesses to the bond, Mr. George Pitcairn, commissary of Dunkeld, Mr. William Cheisly, W.S., and James Currie, his servant. Witnesses to the sasine, Thomas Haistie, portioner of Woodquarter, Andrew Ross, messenger in Bathgate, and William Ross, indweller there.
