Title |
Royal Letter to James, Earl of Seafield, Chancellor, and the other members of the Privy Council of Scotland.
Commands them to grant a new reprieve for eleven years from the date of these presents to James Vallance of Postles who about 22 years ago had killed William McFarlane of Kirktoun yr., but from a precognition taken it appeared that the said killing was only "the effect of a recounter or at least accompanied with such circumstances as make it no murther". King James granted him a reprieve for "many yeares" and the late king by his letter to the Privy Council, dated 28th February 1694-5, granted a new one for seven years from that date, and in virtue of these reprieves he has lived ever since as a free man and a loyal subject. At the Court of St. James 16th January 1702-3 a. r. l. |
