Title |
Precept by William Wilkie of Provinsyde, commissary of Lanark, charging Thomas, James, Anne, Mathew and Hellen, lawful children of the late William Baillie of Litlegill, to compear before him in the Tolbooth of Lanark on 12 and 15 November: It proceeds on the narrative that Sicell Watherburne, relict of the said William Baillie (who died on 29th January 1697), had paid out certain sums of money to the following creditors viz: Mr. Gavin Hamiltowne, minister at Robertowne, Mr. Robert Baillie, minister at Lamingtowne, George Murreyes, smith, Andrew Browne in Bigger, Edward Ramage, merchant traveller, Robert Browne, merchant, Edinburgh, Robert Hamiltowne, smith in Robertowne, John Burkells, elder, burgess of Lanark, Alexander Tweddie, servant, Edward Watsone, servant, John Gibsone, servant, James Gaudie, cowherd, Alexander Jamisone, servant, Margaret Elphistowne, stewart, Jonet Hendersone and Mary Bell, servitrices; and that as the said children refused to enter and confirm themselves executors to their father she could not obtain repayment of the sums disbursed by her. There is a reference to the heir being at the College from the date of his father's death to the following term of Whitsunday |

In dorso:- Depositions taken at Lanark on 22 November 1697 of (1) Edward Watsone, portioner of Crage, 25 years of age, unmarried, who deponed that Baillie "took his sicknes" in May 1696 and that his physicians were Mr. Andrew Rosse, Mr. Andrew Brone of Dolphingtoune and John Baillie, chirurgeon, Edinburgh, that drugs were supplied by James Mureheid, apothecary, Edinburgh, and William Inglis, chirurgeon, Lanark, and that he heard Issobell Baille, servitrix to Lady Anna Douglas, say that she had disbursed £15 Stg. for drugs which Mureheid could not supply; and (2) John Gibsone [? in Litlegill] 20 years of age, unmarried, to the same effect.
There are also put up with the precept two certificates by William Callen, commissary officer, the first dated 17th November 1697, certifying that he had cited the above Edward Watson and John Gibsone to compear before the Commissary on 22 November, and the second dated 1 December 1697, certifying that he had cited Edward Watson in Moote, John Gibsone in Bure [Burne] of Wandell and William Bryden in Litlegill, to compear before the Commissary on 6 December.
