Title |
Instrument of Sasine under the hand of Robert Craufurd, clerk, of the diocese of Glasgow, notary public, following upon and narrating the precept of sasine in a charter under the great seal (dated 6th February 1691) granting to Mr. Thomas Cochran of Pollkellie, and to Diana Cuningham, his spouse, in liferent, and the heirs male of the body of the said Mr. Thomas, whom failing to Mr. Alexander Cochran, his younger brother, and the heirs male of his body, whom failing to the heirs male and assignees of the late William, Lord Cochran, (1) the following parts of the lands and barony of Polkellie and others, viz: the lands of Grie, the Three Clunches, Breadmoss, the Mains of Polkellie, Damhead, Hill, Benthouse, Drumtie, Dumback, Drumbuy, Burnfoot, Dariclivock Third part and Clonherb (? Third part of Clonherb) lying in the bailiary of Cuningham and sheriffdom of Air; (2) an annual rent of £6: 6: 8d Scots furth of the Mill of Pollkellie; (3) the remaining lands of the said barony of Polkeillie, comprehending the lands of Pollkellie alias Polkell, Clonhard, the said mill of Polkellie and the lands of Balgray, with common pasture on the Moor of Machirnock pertaining thereto; (4) the teinds great and small of said lands and barony; and (5) the £10 lands of old extent of Cambuskeith lying on the north side of the Water of Irving, with tower etc., in said bailiary and sheriffdom. It is provided that, if there are children born of the said marriage and in life at the death of the said Mr. Thomas, the liferent of his wife shall be restricted to the lands of Grie, Three Clunshes, Breadmoss, the Mains of Polkellie, Damhead, Hill, Benthouse, Drumtie, Damback and to the said annualrent of £6: 6: 8d, which liferent, so restricted, is declared to be worth annually compting victual at 10 merks per boll, 3000 merks and if there are no children of the marriage, 4000 merks annually. Sasine given at the manor place of Polkellie, on 18th April 1691, by John Bar in Balgraymilne, bailie of the bailiary of Cuningham in that part, to the said Thomas Cochrane, personally present and accepting and to William Neilson in Robertland, attorney for the said Diana Cuningham |

Witnesses to the charter, Robert, Master of Burghlie, Sir Thomas Burnet of Leyes, John, Lord Belhaven, Sir Duncan Campbell of Auchinbrek and John Hay of Park, commissioners for exercising the office of Clerk Register, Sir George Campbell of Cesnock, Justice Clerk, Sir William Ker, knight, and Sir Charles Stewart of Pittendrech, Directors of Chancery. Witnesses to the sasine, Sir Alexander Cuningham of Robertland, Hugh Cochran, son of Colonel Hugh Cochran, John McCrae, servitor of the notary, James Logan, servitor of the said Mr. Thomas Cochran, and James Young in Mains of Polkellie.
