Title |
Precept under the testimony of the Great Seal of King Charles II (faint and partly indecipherable) addressed to John, Earl of Cassillis, superior of the lands aftermentioned, narrating that by charter dated 6 May 1682 the king had granted to John, Earl of Glencairn, the lands of Drummachrein (formerly pertaining to - McAlexander of Drummachrin) and Drummurchie (formerly pertaining to Gilbert McIlwraith of Drummurchie) in the sheriffdom of Air, with teinds etc., together with all other lands, annualrents etc., pertaining to them, which had fallen into his (the king's) hands on account of their presence at Bothwelbridge, and that the lands of Micklelew which was the property of the said Gilbert McIlwraith was not clcarly expressed in the said charter and prior presentations: The king, therefore, with consent of William, Marquis of Queensberrie, principal treasurer, John Drummond of Lundin, treasurer depute, and the remanent lords of Exchequer, being unwilling to prejudice the Earl of Cassillis in his superiority, presented the said Earl of Glencairn to him as heritable tenant of said lands of Micklelew and required him to receive him as such and give him heritable infeftment thereof |
