Title |
Copy of "Informatione for George Stirling of Harbertshyre" who is distressed by William Patoun, chamberlain appointed by the Lords of Session [on the estates of the Earl of Argyle], for payment of £40 Scots of feuduty due furth of the lands of Balvill and Balyeards, which are part of the barony of Gleneglies in terms of an old feu charter. He craves (1) to be held free of said feuduty on the ground that in August 1680 he acquired from the late Marquis of Argyle an annualrent of £40 Scots out of the lands of Oarchyeard in the lordship of Cowell which is equivalent to the said feuduty, and (2) to have a warrant for expeding a new Signature for holding said lands blench of His Majesty in return for a renunciation of the annualrent and payment of a composition. He further contends that the said lands do not fall under Argyle's forfeiture as the feu was granted before 1633 and a subsequent charter by the Earl to him was confirmed under the great seal in May 1680, and that likewise the said annualrent does not fall under the forfeiture because it was adjudged from Stirling by Lord Saline, who was infeft therein by precept under the quarter seal on 5 November 1622 long before the granting of the Signature restoring Argyle to his father's estate |
