Title |
Retour of Inquest held in the tolbooth of Edinburgh, on 8th November 1513, in presence of James Logane, sheriff in that part of the sheriffdoms of Edinburgh and Beruik, constituted by royal commission under the testimony of the great seal, finding that Nicholas Ramsay was heir of Alexander Ramsay of Dalhousy, knight, his father in the lands of the barony of Dalwolsy in the sheriffdom of Edinburgh (N.E. £50, O. E. £20) and in the lands of the barony of Fouldene, with the advocation of the church of Fouldene, in the sheriffdom of Beruik (N.E. 100 merks, O.E. £20), under reservation to the prioress and convent of North Beruik of an annual rent of 2 merks furth of the said barony of Dalwolsy; that he was of lawful age in virtue of the dispensation granted by James IV, with consent of his Lords of Council, at Northumberland, concerning less-age so far as relates to lands held in capite of the king for ward and relief; and that the said two baronies are held ward of the king and have been in non-entry, through the death of the said Alexander Ramsay on the field of battle in Northumberland, for the space of eight weeks before the inquest. |

Description |
Attested by the seals of the sheriff and assise, of which there are still extant viz:- Symon Prestoun, David Rantoun and Alexander Dalmahoy, the first two are in fairly good preservation but the latter is not.
There are also two fragments, one bearing the device of a hunting horn and the letters der of the inscription and the other the letters Patri of the inscription. The former is probably the seal of Alexander Forstar of Corstorphin and the latter of Patrick Flemyng. A copy of the Commission above referred to follows, viz:- Commission under the testimony of the great seal of James V constituting James Logane in Leith and William Sinclar in Morame, his sheriffs in that part of Edinburgh, Edinburgh within the constabulary of Hathinton, Beruik, Roxburgh and Selkirk for executing brieves obtained or to be obtained from Chancery by Patrick Hepburn, George Seytoun, Robert Logane and Nicholas Ramsay on account of the decease of their fathers, and also those obtained by other barons and franktenementers of the said sheriffdoms for their lands within the sheriffdoms; with full power to hold the necessary courts, summon assises, appoint officers etc. At Striueling 23 September a.r. 1 [1513]
