Title |
Certified Copy Retour of Inquest (defective) held on [8th July 1664] finding that David Cunynghame, lawful son of Alexander Cunynghame, was nearest and lawful, heir of his mother, Margaret Cunynghame, eldest sister-german and one of the three lawful and nearest heirs portioners of John Cunynghame of Cambuskeith, in one-third part of the £10 land of old extent of Cambuskeith, lying on the north side of the Water of Irwing, as the same now runs, with tower, manor place, miln etc. within the bailiary of Cunynghame and sheriffdom of Air: Which lands are held of the prince and steward of Scotland in feu-farm for payment of £3: 6: 8 Scots and 4/5½ in augmentation of rental (which sums are to be doubled in the first year of the entry of heirs) and are in the hands of the superior since the decease of the liferentrix Margaret Knox, mother of the said Margaret Cunynghame, in the month of November 1661 |

Extracted from the Book of Acts of the sheriffdom of Air by Adam Blair, clerk of said sheriffdom, and certified by John Achesone, depute of Sir William Ker of Hadden, knight, director of Chancery.
The first half of the writ is injured by damp and is indecipherable. The description of the subjects and other particulars are taken from the two following writs. Cf. No. GD86/578 and Retours (Ayr) No. 539. |
