Title |
Charter of Sale [in Scots] by William, Marquis of Douglas, liferenter, and Archbald, Earl of Angus, his son, fiar, of the lands after mentioned, whereby, in consideration of certain sums of money paid to them by Mr. William Watsone, notary public in Selkirk, they disponed to him in feu-farm the tenement of land, back and fore, under and above, with the yard, barn and pertinents presently possessed by the grantee, lying in the burgh of Selkirk between the tenement, yard and barn of Robert Scott, merchant in Selkirk, on the east, the tenement and yard of Gawin Murray, bailie of Selkirk, on the west, the lands of Walter Watsone on the north, and the High Street on the south, within the lordship and regality of Selkirk and sheriffdom of Ettrick Forrest: To be held of the granters for payment of six shillings and eight pence Scots yearly, with a double of the same at the entry of heirs: With precept of sasine addressed to James Dowglas, chamberlain to the granters. At Halyrudehous and Crawfurde Castle 4th June 1653 and 20th October 1657 |

Witnesses, Robert Crawfurd and William Dowglas, servitors to the said Archbald, Earl of Angus, Andrew Andisone, servitor to Mr. Johne Angus, town clerk of Selkirk, Williame Baillie of Litlegile, Mathew Baillie, his brother, and James Hamiltoun, writer, Lanerk. Signed by the granters and witnesses.
In dorso:- Charter of Confirmation [very faint] by James, Marquis of Douglas, whereby in consideration of certain sums of money paid to him by Mr. William Watsone he confirmed the preceding charter. At Edinburgh 25th February 1669. Witnesses, [? William] Somervell, servitor to the granter, and Hew Wallace. Signed by the granter and witnesses. |
