Title |
Charter (in the vernacular) by Alexander Hay of Monktoun, whereby, in implement of letters of disposition (dated 18th November 1652) granted by him to Anthonie Roiswell, merchant in Leith, Englishman, he disponed to him (1) 2 acres of arable land containing 3 broad "dailles or rigges" (possessed "thir many yeires bygaine" by umquhile Johne Robertsone, father of umquhile David Robertsone, and by his tenants) lying within the bounds of the Port of Newhaven, bailiary thereof and sheriffdom of Edinburgh, between the lands of umquhile Donald Kennedy alias Candlemaker, afterwards of Johne Logane of Coustoune, on the east, the lands pertaining to umquhile William Bell, thereafter to the said Johne Logane and Mr. James Gray, on the west, the lands belonging to umquhile Alexander Castellaw, thereafter to the said Johne Logane, on the south, and the lands of umquhile Patrick Brounscheilles and thereafter of the said Johne Logan on the north; (2) 2 acres of land with the pertinents lying within the said bounds of Newheaven (sometime occupied by William Stewinsone, maltman in Leith), between the lands of umquhile Alexander Thomsone on the east, the lands of umquhile James Thomsone, thereafter pertaining to Gilbert Kirkwoode of Pilrig, on the west, the lands of Warrestoun pertaining to the monastery of the Holy Croce on the south, and the High Street on the north; and (3) 8 particates of land with the pertinents lying contiguous (sometime occupied by the said William Stewinsone) between the lands of umquhile Thomas Gibsone on the east, the lands of umquhile Archibald Galloway on the west, the High Street on the north, and the Knowheid and waterfall or gutter thereof on the south: To be held from the granter of his immediate superior in feu farm paying yearly for each of the two acres (No. 1 supra) [ ], for each of the two acres (No. 2 supra) two shillings, and for each of the eight particates five pennies Scots, with services of courts of the Port of Newhaven: with clause of warrandice and precept of sasine.
